Tioman – An Auspicious Island

Being the largest continent of this world Asia has got many places to visit which are actually known for magnificent sceneries and beauty of nature. Tioman can be considered as one of the popular places of Asia. Tioman mainly belongs to Malaysia. Being a small island Tioman is located at a distance of thirty two kilometres from the eastern coast of the peninsula area of Malaysia. Tioman is also considered to be one of the most beautiful islands of a particular state of Malaysia called Pahang.

 According to the geographical aspects Tioman is thirty nine kilometres in length and twelve kilometres in breadth.

There are a lot of natural beauties which can be considered for visiting in the island of Tioman.

 Tioman has got eight villages in total which of course enhance the beauty of this island.

 There is a village called Kampung Tekek which is considered to be the most populous as well as largest village of this beautiful island.

 This village of Kampung Tekek is mainly located in the northern area of this island.

 This island is also preferred by the tourists for the dense forests which are responsible for adding beauty to the nature and environment of this special island.

 The dense forests of this island are surrounded by the magnificent coral reefs.

 For this above reason the place is one of the most famous places of Malaysia and is mainly popular for scuba diving.

The island of Tioman is also responsible for giving hype to the tourism of Malaysia. The tourism of Malaysia highly depends upon the natural beauties of this island. In order to provide a trigger to the business related to the tourism of this country many resorts and hotels have been constructed. These resorts give lots and lots of facilities which often attract the tourists who come to visit this beautiful place.

It has already been mentioned that the island of Tioman is quite popular among many other places of Malaysia as well as of this whole world.

 In the year 1958 a movie was released called South Pacific where the beaches of Tioman were shown very beautifully.

 In this particular movie these beaches were depicted very specifically which can still be considered as a milestone in the field of movies and entertainment.

 Time magazine is still considered to be a standard in the era of magazines and entertainment. Even general knowledge is highly considered by this magazine.

 In the early 70’s this magazine described this island to be one of the most beautiful islands of this world.

Natural Resources

A place and its beauty is highly characterised by its natural resources. Natural resources of a particular place are not only responsible for adding beauty to its environment but also to the stability of the environment. Stability of the environment is very important for controlling pollution.

 It has got a magnificent marine life.

 The island of Tioman is having a huge rainforest. It has got an area of about thirteen thousand hectares which highly specify the natural resources of this island.

 There are lots and lots of mammals which belong to different types of species in this island.

 There are forty five species of mammals and one hundred and thirty eight species of birds in this whole world.

 Out of these above mentioned numbers Tioman serves a huge number of mammals as well as birds.

 Some of the examples include Black Giant Squirrel, Mouse Deer, and Red Giant Flying Squirrel etc.

History

The history of Tioman Island is very interesting to know and inculcate. Especially the children and the people studying Geography have always got much interest in knowing the history of a place like Tioman.

 For more than thousands of years fishermen have given enough emphasis to this place for varieties of reasons.

 It used to be considered as an important navigation point for those fishermen.

 Not only that this place is quite popular for the reason that it has got fresh water and wood which are rarely found in any of the places of this world.

 During the ancient period of about one thousand years it has been considered as the place of interest for tourism purposes.

 At the same time people from various countries used to visit this beautiful and overwhelming place.

 History says that most of the people used to come from the places like China, Arab etc.

 Even the people from these above mentioned countries used to visit this place for business and trade related activities.

Demographics

According to the census of the year 2008, the Island of Tioman has got a total population of four hundred and thirty two people. At the same time there are many other aspects which actually describe its typical demographical areas. A best example in this respect can be considered. The Governing body of this island actually doesn’t allow its citizens to construct buildings more than three stories.
